Feathering light for group shots

(I shot this with a white bounce umbrella on camera left aimed around 45 degrees  to the kids.  Another light was aimed at the ceiling just for overall fill lighting.)

How can you light a group evenly?  Well, let us review the physics of light and find out.

Here is a illustration of how light falls off away from the light source:

So, you can see here how if we angle the edge of the light,  the person closest to the light can have the same light intensity as the person furthest away.
