(I shot this with a Profoto strobe bounced into an umbrella about 3 feet away at about 45 degrees on camera right.)

One of the most basic and most powerful tools developed for editing is the curve adjustment tool.  It controls the distribution of light like an equalizer would do for sound.  This link would best explain what curves can do for you and how to do it.  In the above picture, I bumped up the highlights of the picture which was the petals of the flowers.  I bumped down the shadow areas of the picture to add contrast between the dark petals vs the lighter petals.
