Simple Backgrounds

April 19, 2010

{I shot this by a marble wall in Central Park with a light bounced into an umbrella for lighting.}

One easy way to keep the viewer’s focus on the subject is to just use a very simple background.  Just make sure the background color compliments well with the subject.  Like a white wall with a white dress would make your subject fade into the background or a green dress by lots greeny outdoors.  Sure, there are exceptions to the rule and we can get into that one day, but avoiding same color background and subject is still a good rule of thumb to follow.
